Paul Schuler

Paul and Cindi welcome international students through global gatherings, local hikes, practical support, and a steady sense of home for those far from theirs.

Paul and his wife, Cindi, make life in Berkeley better and more welcoming for international students. At the start of every semester, they walk around campus with a map of the world and invite people to put a ticker on the place they come from. They host a weekly “global cafe”,  celebrating food and culture from another country. They also organize hikes for international students and allow them to explore California and the Bay Area, where they take care of transportation and planning. As they meet new international students, they also give them personal aid and caring for anything they need. They have helped students in moving between apartments, healthcare issues, and are simply a home for people whose homes are far away. Knowing them has been a pleasure for me since moving to Berkeley, they are truly the kindest people I know.
