By way of Tokyo and New York, Midori travelled alone to California with two things — a suitcase and kindness!
Since first arriving in the Bay Area 15 years ago, Midori consistently volunteers her time to help others in local spaces while simultaneously building community in her wake. Whether it’s supporting food justice, mutual aid in West Oakland, or volunteering as a doula for mothers of color at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, Midori treats others with empathy, and compassion. Midori truly has an innate gift to relate to people from all walks of life.
Although she has endured past adversities, and is currently navigating grief related to her mother’s 2021 stage IV cancer diagnosis, Midori finds positivity in the little things.
“Laughter is Medicine!” she exclaims after her and some friends get an infectious strain of the giggles.
In all seriousness, Midori’s pursuit of law school while simultaneously working full-time as a Berkeley Law legal assistant is no joke. And while life can be chaotic and uncertain – Midori’s thoughtfulness in nurturing her surrounding environments is a constant.
As she continues her legal career it will be exciting to see how she uses her social justice roots to uplift those around her — Pro Bono of course!
