Katherine Perymon

A surrogate mom to young girls in the community

Nominator said: When Katherine isn’t working at her full-time job, you will likely find her volunteering with the Girl Scouts. Her unwavering commitment has impacted countless young girls, particularly those from low-income families, by providing them with opportunities they might otherwise never experience. Despite a busy schedule, Katherine continues to make Girl Scouts a priority—well after her own daughter graduated from the program. Each year for the past 20 years, she dedicates one of her limited vacation weeks, contributing over 50 hours to ensure that these girls can attend a weeklong summer camp to play outdoors, connect with nature, and gain valuable life skills in a supportive environment. She works closely with both the young scouts and their families, always showing compassion. Her deep commitment to her campers is evident in the way she recalls their stories and accomplishments, even years later. Her joy is unmistakable when she’s leading these girls. She spends countless hours driving to meetings, organizing activities, and managing logistics. For Katherine, these tasks are never a burden—they’re a natural extension of her generosity and her belief in empowering the next generation of young women. As someone fortunate enough to count Katherine as a friend and surrogate mom to my daughter, I can confidently say that she is a truly exceptional individual. Her kindness, selflessness, and leadership have left a lasting impact on so many families, including my own. The Girl Scouts community is incredibly lucky to have her, and I’m honored to recognize her invaluable contributions.
