A mother and daughter who help refugees
Nominator said: This nomination is for Annie and her daughter, Dewi. Annie and Dewi have been the staunch supporters of a refugee mother and daughter from Latin America. The two families met when Annie’s daughter began tutoring the young girl, who had arrived at age 9 without written language skills. The mother and daughter lived in a rooming house without safe outdoor access for three years. Annie’s daughter became very involved in their lives and saw that it was a very hard experience especially for the little girl. Annie moved them into her home for over three years and now has been able to help this amazing family secure a great home of their own. The daughter is a thriving sophomore who is really blossoming into a confident young person and is engaged in activities at school. The mother is thrilled to have her own home and kitchen. Annie and Dewi exemplify the spirit of the Chris Kindness Award through their kindness and commitment to this lovely family. They have opened the door to a safer and happier life for this mother and daughter and also made connections that have enriched the lives of each family – hiking, swimming and celebrating milestones together.
